The Cinémathèque française is dedicating a major retrospective to director James Cameron and putting his drawing talent in the spotlight. Works that allow us to understand the imagination and inspirations of the man who directed some of the biggest blockbusters of world cinema such as “Avatar”, “Titanic”, “Terminator”, “Abyss” and even “Aliens”…
Some have more imagination than others, but while all children have dreams, not everyone has the means to bring them to life, let alone share them with millions of people. This is the case of little James, who was born on August 16, 1954 in Kapuskasing, in the Canadian province of Ontario.
A pencil, a pen, a brush, a sheet of paper: neither one nor two, he spent his youth drawing and inventing creatures and characters, exploring the very high level – interstellar space – and the very deep level – the depths of the oceans. And he made his dreams come true, because this meticulous and talented designer became a film director.
An artist of the spectacular and excessive, an experimenter of new techniques that he put at the service of his creations that now appear in the list of the greatest blockbusters: Terminator, Aliens Return, Abyss, Titanic, Avatar…
The exhibition ” The art of James Cameron » runs until January 5th at the Cinémathèque de Paris.
The curator of the exhibition Mathieu Ocean is the guest of VMDN.
