Eight children aged between one and 14 were shot dead in Shreveport, Louisiana, on Sunday morning after a man opened fire during a domestic dispute, police said.
The shooting began around 6 a.m. Local time and left ten people wounded, according to Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith.
Some of the victims were related to the shooter, the Associated Press reported, citing police.
The suspect fled and was killed during a police pursuit
The alleged gunman acted alone and fled the scene after the shooting.
He was later shot and killed by officers during a chase, Smith confirmed.
Investigators said the crime scene spanned three locations and was still being processed hours later.

Shreveport officials described the scene as unprecedented
Police spokesman Chris Bordelon said the site was large and contained multiple deceased children.
Chief Smith told reporters it was a crime scene “like none of us have ever seen.”
Shreveport, with a population of about 190,000, is Louisiana’s third-largest city after New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
Louisiana State Police are assisting the investigation
The Louisiana State Police confirmed its agents were supporting the Shreveport police in gathering evidence.
Authorities have not released the shooter’s identity or a possible motive beyond the domestic dispute.
