The unpublished novel by Gabriel García Márquez will be published in Spain in 2024

It will undoubtedly be one of the publishing events of 2024. Penguin Random House has announced the publication of an unpublished novel by Gabriel García Márquez. It will be available for sale in all Spanish-speaking countries except Mexico and will be translated into the major languages of the world.

So far, we know little about the work in question. It is entitled “See you in August” and, as explained by his sons Rodrigo and Gonzalo García Barcha, it is a text that came to light with great effort at the end of his life: “It was the fruit of a last attempt, to keep going against all odds”.

However, they add that in these words the spirit of the Colombian Nobel laureate still survives, all his imagination and imagery: “Rereading it almost ten years after his death, we found that the text had many and very gratifying merits and none of this prevents us from enjoying the most outstanding of Gabo’s work: his inventiveness, the poetry of the language, the captivating narrative, his understanding of human nature and his affection for his experiences and his misfortunes, especially in love, perhaps the most important subjects of all his works”.

“As the editor of all works by Gabriel García Márquez, the publication of an unpublished work of his is a great pride and news that readers around the world will celebrate. It is also an honor to publish it in 2024, the year that commemorates the 10th anniversary of his death,” said Pilar Reyes, Editor-in-Chief of Penguin Random House.

Macondo on Netflix

In 2019, Netflix announced it had bought the rights to turn the novel One Hundred Years of Solitude into a series, a work that Gabo himself believed would be very difficult to adapt. The release date is not yet known (it is set to be released in 2024), but the author’s sons Rodrigo and Gonzalo are the executive producers.

The production company that will bring this project to life will be Dynamo, which has recorded successful titles such as Narcos, Historia de un crimen: Colmenares, Frontera Verde or El robo del siglo.

The role of Ursula is played by actress Susana Morales, who is also a dancer. Actor Claudio Cataño takes on the role of Colonel Aureliano Buendía.
