The event also includes the shows of lily polyester , Chichi James, Medusa & Poosa, Patrick Horny and the sessions of DJ Dada I DJ Alex Gruess.

Organized by the Espai LGTBI de Girona and La Mirona, the Transmaricabollo parties follow the series of dates like the historical ones Chocolate churros, which has been taking place on Sunday afternoons at the Sala Apolo in Barcelona for years. «The transverse axis is the music. It all starts with a concert by LGTBI artists. On this occasion we bring Las Marikarmen, a group that moves in Barcelona and that proposes them a very transgressive show which will certainly come as a surprise,” he explains Daniel Sanchez, activist of the Espai LGTBI de Girona and one of the organizers of these celebrations. The celebrations also include shows from drag queens I tractor.

As Sánchez explains, the idea of starting these celebrations came after Espai LGTBI realized it need to find an inclusive space for all members of the collective. They quickly received full support from the leadership of La Mirona, a space that “has been working very hard on this for a long time”. In his opinion, there is currently “a lack of leisure spaces for the LGTBI group” in the regions of Girona, since those that were there have been closed.

A very positive balance

From the organization of the meeting they draw a “very positive balance” of the three editions held so far and the participation is “increasing”. Likewise, Sánchez points out that while it’s often difficult to get Barcelona crowds to stretch, they’re noticing it more and more more presence of people from outside the counties of Girona. The activist and member of the organization also points out that although it is a party specifically aimed at the LGBTI community, people who are not part of it are often present. “A lot of people come who just want to see something new and enjoy the party in a free and safe space,” he says.

The fourth edition of the Transmaricabollo Festival will also coincide with that International Transgender Visibility Day. From the Associació Trans de Girona they have organized a protest event this Friday between 7pm and 9pm in Plaça del Vi where they will read a manifesto and give an open microphone. For Sánchez, the La Mirona party, where this collective will also perform some actions, is ideal to end commemorating the day.
