MIN Awards honor Niña Coyote and Chico Tornado with “Best Album in Basque”

The MIN Awards for Independent Music have again – for the third time – awarded the San Sebastian duo Niña Coyote eta Chico Tornado with the award for “Best Album in Basque”, sponsored by Etxepare Euskal Institutua. The award ceremony took place this Wednesday in the Auditorium of Palma de Mallorca, where the other four Basque finalists in this category were also present: Merina Gris, Olaia Inziarte, Vulk and Zea Mays.

The jury awarded the band formed by Usua de la Fuente and Koldo Soret with an acknowledgment for their work Niña Coyote eta Chico Tornado Vs Don Cóndor eta Ñora Alacrán (2022). In this latest effort, the stoner-rock duo explore cumbia and the combination of Mexican-influenced melodies with electronics, which has led them to work with various instruments such as the accordion, cowbell, güiro and water stick.

Biscay singer Paula Mateus was in charge of announcing the award to loud applause. “Eskerrik, asko! Artists also registered in this category who reached the semi-finals after the public vote included Arima Soul, Bulego, Eñaut Elorrieta, Esti Markez, En Tol Sarmiento, Ezpalak, Goxua’n Salsa, Ilargi, Ines Osinaga and Mikel Urdangarin . Among them, the jury selected Merina Gris, Olaia Inziarte, Vulk, Zea Mays and Niña Coyote eta Chico Tornado as finalists.

This edition of the MIN Awards saw the most nominations for female bands and singers. Some of the winners like Shego, Tanxugueiras and Las Migas have dedicated their awards to all the women who make and have made music.
