Gloria Riggio, poetry slam champion: “An infinite and vital need: poetry concerns us all”

Gloria Riggio (Agrigent, 2000), Italian champion of the Poetry Slam 2023 (youngest and first woman in the history of the competition), is a student at the Faculty of History and Philological-Literature of the University of Trento and editor of the contemporary literature magazine “Inverso – Giornale di poetica», for which she deals with the investigation related to the reduction and recovery of female poetry production from the Italian literary canon and school handbooks. On the occasion Poetry Month, the poet visited the “Corriere della Sera” where she spoke about poetry slam, performative poetry, her research on the “forgotten” authors of our literature and the meaning of poetry. He also read three poems for the readers of “Corriere”: Alda Merini (verses from The holy land); Jolanda Insana, version there Sciarra bitter; and an unpublished poem by him: Exception for an end (2020-24).

Riggio has published collections of verse for Edizioni La Gru: The myrtle and the rose2017; The time of doubt, 2019 (some of which are part of national anthologies). His poems have been translated into Spanish and Greek. In 2022, he created the performance poetry show titled Hypothetical periods.
