“For this album we fed on the sound of groups like Los Brincos or Juan y Junior.”

“And even though we arrived broken, even though we arrived bad, these stories are better, of these stories the best when you think of me,” says one of the verses from When you think of meone of the topics that best defines the concepts around which it revolves Of flowers and entrails (Sound Boy, 2023) the sixth studio album by the rock and garage trio Mujeres from Barcelona. Next Saturday, January 20th, it will be presented as part of a Great SNOW Night in La Mirona de Salt! Yawners, Carmen 113, Núria Graham, Jordi Serradell and Ciutat will also compete against each other.

That was certainly the case the hardest work of the trio consisting of Yago Alcover (guitar and vocals), Pol Rodellar (bass) and Arnau Sanz (drums) have ever released “I suffered a back injury right before recording the album and they had to operate on me. Because of this mishap, we had to postpone the recording for four months,” explains Yago Alcover.

This setback that the group had to cope with by resigning ultimately influenced the final result. “The album we wanted to record had to go in one direction, but everything changed it,” Alcover emphasizes. “Originally it was already a work about change and growing up, but the end result also has a certain message of resilience, this idea of encountering obstacles throughout life and facing failure,” adds the singer and guitarist on a record that, despite its bright guitars, keyboards and upbeat melodies, sounds sad and emotional and even melancholic in some moments.

Another one of The consequences of the delay in recording are reflected in the number of songs. “Initially the idea was to do between 10 and 12 tracks. However, we decided to also prepare some B-sides that sound different. When we handed over the master of the recording, the label told us that it would be better to put everything on the record,” replies the musician when asked why this record contains seventeen cuts.

About the origin of the disc title, Of flowers and entrailsAlcover explains: “When we were thinking about the title of the album, Arnau thought of the title of an album by Camarón de la Isla What is the title? Foal full of anger and honey. We liked it straight away because it has a lot of power and anger at the same time and contains two concepts that aren’t necessarily linked. That’s where the idea came from.” Furthermore, Alcover adds that since the beginning of the project they have had a lot of fun working on both the letters and the titles and that they tend to build like “collages”.

While Mujeres essentially continues a pop guitar group with infinite details that give their proposal the recognizable soundFor this sixth album, Alcover acknowledges Spanish pop as influences. “We always listen to very different things, but for this album I could probably tell you that we were fed by a lot of Spanish pop.” I would mention groups like Los Brincos, Los Relampagos or Juan and Junior. However, we also heard about it recently a lot of punk and electronica ».

The sweetest moment of the group

With sixteen years of experience, Mujeres is probably experiencing the best moment of their career, with an album that has received unanimous praise from critics and a concert schedule in which they hardly have any free dates left.

Alcover admits that the development has been enormous: “We went about it very blindly until well into our fourth record. Until then, we didn’t really know what we were doing when we recorded an album. We chose the songs, recorded them and didn’t ask for much more. I feel like since Un sentimiento importante (2017) we started thinking more about the sound, becoming aware of everything, making changes and arrangements.”

However, the singer and guitarist believes that “the basis of the group is essentially the same”. “We learned to round out the songs, but our sound hasn’t changed.” emphasizes Yago Alcover.
