Femtogo, Sistine, Laurent Bardainne & Tigre d’eau Douce, Malik Djoudi… the playlist from the music book “Libération” – Libération

Every weekend the web radio “Tsugi” accompanies the music magazine “Libération”.

The Discovery: Femtogo, Universe of Rage

Like some of the rappers of his generation, Femtogo chooses to appear fully masked. With his face still hidden and without any clips on his account, this 23-year-old artist – one of the rare pieces of information you can get straight from listening to him – moves forward for the moment without showing his face and without any information give. When listening to his pieces from numerous musical genres, thanks to the cryptic references in his lyrics, we discover an experience that gradually reveals itself with modesty.

Active in music since 2020, Femtogo plays with musical universes and barriers by delivering a rap full of emotions and urgency (especially in its often very intense interpretation) on sound productions that relate to both electronic music and trap or film soundtracks deal with. A way for him to tell his story through texts full of allusions to pop culture, from manga to video games to cinema, to give the listener a little of his own reality through numerous works of fiction.

A credo that the rapper applies again on his latest EP The beast, accompanied by producer Vilhelm: Influenced by heroic fantasy and their lyrical flights of fancy, the duo delivered five powerful rap pieces based on electronic sounds and heavenly choirs, in which Femtogo continued to tell his story without saying too much about it. While we’ll probably have to wait a bit longer to get an interview with the rapper, that won’t necessarily let us know the most about Femtogo. At the moment his pieces speak very well for him while maintaining the mystery. That’s the charm of his music.

Sistine disappoint you

Don’t throw anything away anymore. The young singer with a pretty, slightly veiled voice goes on a kind of reverse ego trip in the form of a declaration of love. A dark, queer ballad. We won’t be disappointed.

Laurent Bardainne & Freshwater Tigers Best performance. Jeanne added

French suits the Anglophile singer very well. A great moment from the very special album by the former saxophonist and co-leader of Poni Hoax. Between song and pop. Haunting and masterful.

Malik Djoudi Lively

Twenty years, the best age in life? This could be the subtitle of this sensitive piece, taken from the fourth album by a unique artist who has created a discography that defines French song. Comfortable.

Junior The silence

Four years since we last heard the French trio. It’s a joy to find their psyche-pop atmosphere, not stuffy and with a sound well anchored in modernity. No reason for jerk dancing.

Peel Climax

Two former members of the group Foster The People are reinventing themselves to pay homage to the Britpop scene of the ’90s and ’00s. Oddly enough, it’s Climax’s powerful punk-funk that emerges from this nostalgic first album.
