General outrage. Fake pornographic images featuring singer Taylor Swift created using generative artificial intelligence (AI) were widely shared on the social network X (formerly Twitter). One of these images was viewed more than 47 million times on the social network. According to American media, the image remained on X for more than 17 hours before it was deleted. Representatives of the US singer, who is already the target of conspiracy theories, have not yet commented.

In response to this in a press release: “A zero tolerance policy” for the non-consensual publication of nude images. The platform explained “Specifically remove all identified images” of the singer and “Take appropriate action against the accounts that posted them.”

Women and girls are the main targets of harassment

The White House also expressed concerns on this issue. “We are alarmed by reports of the spread of these false images.” Karine Jean-Pierre, spokeswoman for the American executive branch, told the press. She recalled the important role of social networks in moderating content. “Unfortunately, we know all too often that a lack of enforcement has a disproportionate impact on women and girls, who are the main targets of online harassment.”She added.

However, the fact that such images this time involve Taylor Swift, the world’s second most-followed artist on the Spotify platform, could help raise authorities’ awareness of the problem given the outrage of her millions of fans. “The only good thing that happened to Taylor Swift is that she is big enough to pass a law to eliminate this. You are sick.” Posted on Thursday on X Danisha Carter, an influencer whose audience reaches several hundred thousand people on social networks.
