Dennis Kelly, Acid in the Blood

For her debut production, actress Marie Mahé takes the stage at Théâtre La Tempête to present DNA, an edgy and powerful lyric by British playwright Dennis Kelly that, in an at times chilling way, questions our relationships with others.

The play begins with an actually quite banal story. A tale of a playground or a trip to a summer camp set against a backdrop of school bullying and adolescent stupidity. A scapegoat, a whipping boy, raining punches, throwing stones and suddenly tragedy.

Then begins a thriller of sorts, both sociological and psychological, served up by four actors who handle the dry and gory language of British playwright Dennis Kelly with relentless skill.

And what she tells us through the characters about us, the people we are, is bloodthirsty. It also asks many questions about our relationship with others and with ourselves, in a way with our DNA. The title of the track “DNA” and the fact that it is not lacking in acidity is.
