Writer Boubacar Boris Diop: “I saw in Joola a metaphor for Senegalese identity”

After writing about the Rwandan genocide, Senegalese writer Boubacar Boris Diop returns to the sinking of the Joola, a disaster that occurred off the coast of Gambia in 2002. His novel A grave for Kinne Gaajo gives voice to Njéeme, a Senegalese journalist whose best friend disappeared in the shipwreck.
