The SCCC delights with the best Christmas carols

The premiere of the last show of the Symfònica de Cobla i Corda de Catalunya (SCCC) thrilled a full auditorium in Girona last night. The musical project promoted by the Metalquimia Foundation offers this year a selection of the best Christmas songs together with the Polifònica de Puig-reig and the soloists Beth, Elena Gadel, Miki Núñez, Mariona Escoda, La Pau and Joan Garrido, bringing the holidays forward a month . Because yesterday, at least between eight and ten o’clock in the evening, it wasn’t Black Friday in the auditorium, but the Christmas holidays had been brought forward by a month. A long final standing applause from the audience after the interpretation of Els Segadors ended a priceless evening, the tickets of which were also sold out for today’s (7 p.m.) and tomorrow’s (12 p.m.) sessions. If next year sucks, don’t let anyone tell you.

“The Spirit of Christmas”, as the concert is called, hits the nerve right from the start. The production is impressive and the voices of the Puig-reig Polyphonic and the participating soloists only emphasize the ensemble. So, on this emotional journey, great Christmas songs of all times and nationalities were heard, with the impressive varnish that gives the SCCC sound, with arrangements by Francesc Cassú and Adrià Barbosa. The program includes pieces from the medieval music of Greensleeves to the most famous and contemporary rhythms of Ed Sheeran, Elton John, George Michel and Mariah Carey. There was also the premiere of a song entitled “The Spirit of Christmas” composed by singer Beth Rodergas and Adrià Barbosa. Even more merit for the Súria singer, who has just become a mother again and, as Josep Lagares explained before the concert began, she brought the baby into the auditorium with her.

The performance of “Les dotze van tocant” with Elena Gadel as soloist was particularly emotional, and in the final phase the entire group of singers sang a selection of Christmas songs in Catalan, such as “El petit vailet” and “A Betlem me I want”. to go, Frozen December, The Shielded Demon, Smoke, Smoke, Smoke and Mother’s Boy. There was time for encores with pieces such as Quan somrius, El caganer and Feliz Navidad, which were enthusiastically followed by the standing and devoted audience.
