The 42nd Enkarzine Amateur Film and Video Competition will be held from November 21st to 24th. Short films with a maximum length of 30 minutes can be submitted for the call for entries. The closing date for entries is August 27th. The organization has invited “non-professional directors or non-professional filmmakers who are not famous in the film industry” to present their works.

Due to the nature of the competition, prepared by people at home for people at home, it is an event that has gained great importance in recent years for amateur filmmakers from all over Bizkaia and the Basque Country. There is no concrete basis. Short films must be no longer than 30 minutes, but there is complete freedom of subject, language, genre or format. Each participant also has the opportunity to present another film; as long as he has not submitted them. Basque and Spanish will be the main languages of the competition. So if a work is shot in a third language, it must have subtitles.

The competition is based on the group URRIA, made up of members of the first amateur cinema founded in 1979 in Zalla. In 1980 the URRIA group organized the first “Muestra de Cine Amateur en Super 8” and after three years that was just an exhibition, in 1984 they turned it into a competition. The Regional Council of Bizkaia and the “Cultural Association of Encartaciones” were the promoters of this change and decided to do it every year in a town of Encarterri. They kept this change of location for three years until they settled in Zalla in 1987, when the URRIA Group took over responsibility. The performances and award ceremony still take place in Zalla today.
