Marie Amachoukeli for Ama Gloria, a film about what love can and cannot do

Ama Gloria, the film by young French filmmaker Marie Amachoukeli, opened Critics’ Week in Cannes last May. A tender and heartbreaking film about a little girl separated from her nanny: Cléo is six years old, orphaned by her mother and being raised by her nanny Gloria, originally from Cape Verde. When Gloria learns that her mother is dead and she must return home, Cleo’s life collapses.
