Great exhibitions to enjoy in Madrid this June

He Thyssen-Bornemisza presents the first retrospective of the German artist Andre Butzer from your country. The exhibition, which opened a few weeks ago, consists of a selection of 22 works created between 1999 and 2022, and coincides with the 50th anniversary of the artist, who has distinguished himself throughout his career for his idiosyncratic and unique imagery and his combination of images has elements of pop and abstraction.

June is the last month to enjoy “The Wise Look” by Francesc Catalá-Roca in the Museum of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. This exhibition, in the context of his 100th birthday, consists of renowned works by the photographer that are part of private collections as well as the Academy itself.

Finally, on the 28th, a new national museum will open its doors: Gallery of the Royal Collections. Located next to the Royal Palace and Almudena Cathedral, it houses a selection of national heritage gems. In addition, a third of the pieces on display will change constantly. More than 650 pieces will be on display for the inaugural exhibition, including paintings, decorative arts, historical photographs and tapestries, including masterpieces such as Velázquez’s “The White Horse” and Caravaggio’s “Salome with the Head of the Baptist”.
