The Montreal artist Fernie puts her sublime voice at the service of an RnB that is as bright and delicate as her first album: Aurora. The 25-year-old moving artist, black and queer, sees music as a “safe space”: a safe place, a refuge to reveal yourself, share your feelings and assert your identity. Portrait.
Fernie was adopted in Brazil by a Brazilian mother and a German father and grew up on the English-speaking western island of Montreal, Quebec. With her agile and clear voice, Fernie first used her in school choirs. He then completed training with teachers at the West Island Music Academy.
At 18, he was sharing on SoundCloud The acoustics EP: Five tracks recorded at home in one day. Five years later he delivered Aurora, a first album that received great attention in Quebec and Canada and in which this author and composer wants to show himself as he is in complete transparency. The result: lyrics full of vulnerability and melodies with a subtle melancholy for an RnB that is as bright as it is delicate. Meeting in Paris, a few hours before his concert at La Cigale Mother, with a black and queer artist who sees music as a “safe space”, a safe place, a refuge to reveal himself, share his feelings and assert his identity. An artist we need to follow very, very closely!
