Does France have a chance of winning Junior Eurovision 2023?

Does France have a chance of winning the Junior Eurovision Song Contest? The event that brings together sixteen young European talents will take place this Sunday, November 26th in Nice!

The European Youth Singing Competition will take place in Nice on Sunday, November 26th from 4 p.m. For this 21st edition of theEurovision Sixteen young artists from all over Europe come together on the stage of the Palais Nikaïa. Last year the victory went to the Frenchman Lissandro with his song Oh mother! Who will represent France this year?

Zoé Clauzure was chosen to represent the tricolor. The 13-year-old teenager from Hauts-de-Seine stood out in the seventh season of The Voice Kidsin 2020.

She will perform the song Heart, dedicated to victims of bullying at school, during the competition. But does she have a chance of winning? It is difficult to predict in advance the victory or defeat of the candidates in the singing competition, as the audience is responsible for the vote, as is an expert jury. Unlike the Eurovision Song Contest, the public has been able to vote for their own country since Friday evening.

A good starting lineup for France

In any case, the title dedicated to a particularly current topic can cause a stir. The French Eurovision candidate also appeared excited at the 20 Minutes microphone to move to a “super good place”: she will actually be the twelfth candidate to sing on the stage of the Palais Nikaïa. The location was determined by lottery.

Remember, like the Eurovision Song Contest, the experts disagree on the order. For some this is crucial and it is better to go into the second part of the competition rather than at the very beginning so that voters keep the performance in mind when voting. Zoé Clauzure’s order seems completely advantageous in this regard.

Historically, France has its chances

While this is not the case in the adult version, France has been on the rise in the junior Eurovision competition for several years. In fact, France has won twice recently: Valentina was the winner in 2020, and Lissandro is the last defending champion, winning in 2022.

However, France is not THE favorite country in the history of the competition. Georgia was the most successful country in the history of the competition, with victories in 2008, 2011 and 2016.

If you count the points awarded since 2017, the ranking is different. For 6 years, Poland has received the highest number of points across all editions combined. It is also the one that has won the most points in the public vote for six years.

However, France has nothing to be ashamed of as it comes in second place, be it in the overall vote, the public vote or the professional vote. An enviable position that could mean a good placing for Zoé Clauzure this Sunday.
