Despite Bérézina in terms of critics, Napoleon dominates the French box office

The Ridley Scott biopic attracted almost one in three viewers this week, or 764,000 admissions, in the 743 French cinemas where it was shown.

Ridley Scott’s Napoleon Bonaparte biopic took first place at the box office in its first week of release in France, according to CBO figures compiled on Wednesday.

The almost $200 million film, in which actor Joaquin Phoenix wears the emperor’s tricorn hat, attracted almost one in three viewers this week (764,000 visitors in 743 cinemas).

He leaves the last part of Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Snake and the Songbirdby Francis Lawrence, with 370,000 visitors (983,000 total two weeks after publication).

The Boy and the HeronJapanese animated film by master Hayao Miyazaki, slips into third place on the podium with 138,000 visitors (1.3 million after 4 weeks of operation).

3. The Boy and the Heron : 138,088 entries on 926 copies (1,369,028 entries in four weeks)

4. Abbé Pierre, a life of struggle : 120,998 entries on 760 copies (666,495 entries in three weeks)

5. The wonders : 107,796 entries on 623 copies (660,648 entries in three weeks)
