Dance, “Coppelia” debuts at La Scala, reinterpreted by the Russian Ratmansky

“Coppelia” debuted at La Scala on December 17 in a new choreographic version signed by Russian choreographer Alexei Ratmansky and created for the corps de ballet, principal dancers and étoiles under the direction of Manuel Legris. “Coppélia” was premiered in 1870 at the Paris Opéra to music by Léo Delibes and is one of the masterpieces of the ballet repertoire. There are many choreographic versions of this title documented at La Scala since the end of the 19th century. The last production for the Scaligero Ballet dates back to 2009.

The language of Alexei Ratmansky unfolds for this new production on the music of Delibes, one of the most popular ballet music, very rich in subtleties, themes and motifs that characterize the plot, plot and characters. A wealth of color and nuance, both stylistic and choreographic, allowing the talents of the company, with which Ratmansky has a long-standing association, to showcase their personality and versatility, driven by the character of Swanilda. A true driving force of action, he teaches Franz, Coppélius and all of us with his intelligence and determination that love is not a perfect face, but requires and deserves much more.

On December 15th (6 p.m.) the public meeting of Sergio Trombetta entitled “Never fall in love with a stranger at the window” will take place at the Ridotto dei Palchi “A.Toscanini”.
