LThe National Syndicate of Music and Variety Shows Prodiss presented a study on Wednesday 21 June the development of concert ticket prices, Produced by PMP Strategy and adopted by BFM TV. This clearly illustrates the price increase, which remains largely below inflation. Over and beyond, France remains a country where concert tickets are relatively affordablecompared to some of its neighbors.

In France, the average price of a concert ticket in 2023 is 43 euros. But the differences are big, the best seats at some concerts can be sold for more than 400 euros. So, during Beyoncé’s concert event at the Stade de Franceon May 26th, tickets are available at prices between 79 and 450 euros.

The study is based on the tariffs of Eighteen French theaters of varying strength in 2019, 2022 and 2023 show two things: First, “theatre ticket prices have generally changed less than cumulative inflation over the period”. On the other hand, the best seats in large halls “experienced an increase above the level of inflation between 2019 and 2023”. In the stadiums, the increase is exactly around 22.7%.

Cheaper than USA, but more expensive than in Spain

“This study shows that there is indeed an increase,” summarizes Malika Seguineau, Managing Director of Prodiss. “But given all the prices being charged in Europe and beyond, we in the United States remain one of the countries where tickets are cheapest and still very accessible. “So if Beyoncé’s best concert sold for €450 in France, it’s almost a thousand dollars in the United States.” On the other hand, the best seat on the same tour was €425 in Spain and €436 in Belgium.

“Inflation, the economic crisis that affects all sectors of the economy, also has an impact on the performing arts,” explains Malika Seguineau. “When you start a tour, you drive trucks, you fill up on gas… Then you rent a venue that’s impacted by rising energy costs, you have to set up stages that are impacted by rising costs.” Hardware. »
