Clepa and T&E say the European Parliament is ignoring the experts by betting on a softer Euro7

The Association of European Automotive Suppliers (Clepa) and the European Association for Transport and Environment (T&E) assured that MEPs had given the automotive industry “free rein” and ignored the experts by voting in favor of making the regulations more flexible in Euro 7.

Anna Krajinska, director of vehicle emissions and air quality at T&E, assured in a statement that the Euro 7 legislation was “crucial” to ensure cleaner air for all and accused the European Parliament of ignoring “all advice” from experts ignoring that this regulation is “feasible and affordable” for both car manufacturers and consumers.

“According to the Environment Committee’s proposals, Euro 7 is significantly weaker. The small advances in durability and pollution in no way compensate for the catastrophic weakening of limits and tests for cars, vans and trucks,” he added.

Yesterday, Thursday October 12, the Environment Committee of the European Parliament voted in favor of the Euro 7 regulation proposal presented by the Asturian MEP for Ciudadanos, Susana Solí. The proposal envisages, among other things, the application of the Euro 7 standard two years later and lowers the limit values ​​for nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions from 80 mg/km to the 60 mg/km proposed by the Commission.

For his part, Clepa’s Secretary General, Benjamin Krieger, has suggested that a “weak” Euro 7 will neither mean clean air nor stimulate innovation in the European Union (EU). “Europe should not fall behind China and the United States, which have set ambitious emissions targets,” he added.

Both also emphasized that these modifications could result in 100 million more conventionally powered cars being sold and on European roads in the coming decades.

The two organizations have reminded the European Parliament that it has “one last chance” to develop a “more ambitious” Euro 7, both in terms of regulations and in terms of public health, in the next plenary session on the 8th The final provision of Euro 7 will be voted on on November 9th, before negotiations begin with the European Commission and the European Council.
