“Afropolitan”: The humorous web series is back for a second season

This is the latest humorous web series on TV5 Monde and TV5 Afrique. AfropolitaineThe 5-10 minute short program returns for a second season just as hilarious as the first. Afropolitainedesigned and produced by Aline and Soraya Milla, follows the adventures of two sisters as they confront the central question of identity when living a dual culture.

Yvoire and Janis are two sisters and they are as different as can be. An explosive comic duo sought after by the other duo formed by series creators Soraya Milla and her mother Aline Milla: ” It was the way to express completely opposite and different opinions. For this reason we have chosen Yvoire, the school of integration, etc. And who still has his little character and touch of humor. And Janis, her motto is disorder. »

Yvoire and Janis are two facets of the same universe, the universe of young Afropolitans for whom the search for identity is a theme. And to approach this serious subject, Soraya and Aline Milla have chosen humor.

« humor why? Because people laugh first and then think. For example, in the episode about colorism, we laugh at first and then say to ourselves: Yes, that’s hot. So you can say a lot of things with humor. The points of view are varied and the identities we are confronted with are varied. »

« i am hybrid »

Afropolitaine, it also nudges popular ideas about these French-born generations, be it in France or in Africa. Soraya Milla: I am hybrid! Because this question always comes up. In France I’m seen as black, when I go to Africa they see me as white, so where am I? I’ve finally made peace. I’m a hybrid and didn’t try to be more African than those who stayed on the continent. Or here, to appear more integrated and to show that I have mastered all cultural codes… Not anymore! »

Like the first season, the second season deconstructs clichés and outdated ideas through even tastier misunderstandings as the “aunties” arriving from Africa for the holidays try to understand their Paris-raised nieces.
