The TV series for the weekend: “American Born Chinese”, “Rabbit Hole” and “Platonic”

American-born Chinese is a 2006 graphic novel published by Gene Luen Yang, the first comic to be nominated for National Book Prize and the first to win the Printz Award. Now there’s also a TV series by the same title that’s available on Disney+ for a few days. The protagonist of the eight episodes is Jin Wang, a Chinese-American high school student who meets Wei-Chen, a Taiwanese student in the United States, on an exchange. Their stories and their adolescent disorders overlap with the battle between the gods of Chinese mythology. The cast stars Michelle Yeo (The tiger and the dragon) playing the goddess Guanyin.
