Coast guards and commercial companies from different countries were rightly mobilized for the search and rescue of the Titan submarine and the five very wealthy passengers. The media gave great importance to the news. I don’t know that the same effort is being made for the boats that cross the Mediterranean every week with hundreds of people on board. The shipwreck in Greece was a massive humanitarian catastrophe that would have been largely avoidable had it been managed with at least a modicum of the commitment we used to try to manage the much smaller Titan tragedy. And the media talked about it a lot less. Doesn’t that seem like an injustice to you?

Three days ago, like many others, I received a WhatsApp with the warning that was forwarded several times and read: The strange world. Buy a €250,000 ticket to board a modern submarine, dive deep to see the wreck of the Titanic, but something goes wrong: there’s global concern and everyone is rushing to get you rescue. You flee a war, a dictatorship or a famine, you pay everything you need to get on a shabby boat, you cross the stormy sea and something goes wrong: you are shipwrecked in general silence and someone even says that you caused it himself. To be honest, I didn’t expect to find the same concept and almost the same words in the Pd secretary’s statement. For goodness sake, there is some truth in this WhatsApp, certainly conceived and written by a sharp mind. One step further is expected for politics. A summary. Something like: human lives must always be saved, any noble rescue; But let’s also think of the poor who don’t make the headlines, even more so when we are supposed to be the ones saving them. As far as communication mechanisms are concerned, everything to do with the Titanic and with America in general has a special weight. But there is no denying that our generation will continue to be met with indifference to the maritime accidents in the Mediterranean.

Injustice
We teachers, fragile workers, what awaits us?
From the press and television I learn that the Senate Working Commission has granted the extension of Smart Working for workers classified as fragile by the Health Ministers Decree of 02/04/2022: for private individuals until December 31st, for public employees only until September 30th. The discrimination bordering on unconstitutionality is already clear in this decision. The problem is the teachers who need to be replaced and therefore there are no funds to pay for replacement teachers. There is money for dogs and cats, but not for people with cancer or immunodepressive disorders. A pity! If you take into account that classes are suspended in July and August, the government’s major economic outlay is reduced to the month of September alone. Without taking into account that on September 1, fragile teachers returning to school do not know whether and how to use them in agile work. Headmasters also do not know what tasks to assign at home. I am a kindergarten teacher and cannot be used for distance learning. Could Minister Valditara be able to give everyone the same instructions? The Conte government had recognized the parity of pathology with a hospital stay, which costs no more than work at home, which cannot always be carried out. Why not adopt this solution? The deputies would continue to be appointed without additional burdens.
