“Asphyxia: Raqqa, Chronicles of an Apocalypse”, by Celine Martelet and Hussam Hammoud

For almost four years, the city of Raqqa was the capital of the self-proclaimed “Caliphate” of the Islamic State organization. Its captive residents witnessed atrocities that no one can imagine. Emerging from terrorist hell in 2017, they remain marked by the same pain: that of never having been able to tell the terror and believing it was inaudible. Journalists Céline Martelet and Hussam Hammoud captured these touching words Suffocation: Raqqa, Chronicle of an Apocalypsepublished by Editions Denoël.
